    On p. 9 of Montagu’s introduction to his edited volume “Science and Creationism” (Oxford UP, 1984):

    “The scientist believes in proof without certainty, the bigot in certainty without proof.”

    I would imagine someone somewhere used the quote from memory and put in creationist, and seeing that the quote is from a book about creationism, that would be easy to do. Still makes sense!
