Obama’s birth certificate: Putting the sideshow freaks and carnival barkers on the hot seat

No, it’s not particularly important, especially since we knew from so many other sources that Obama was, indeed, Honolulu born.

The White House pried the old birth certificate out of the records of the State of Hawaii, and released copies to the world today.

The White House video:

ABC Television’s report:

View a .pdf of the form here:  President Obama\’s original Hawaiian birth certificate

I predict Orly Taitz, Donald Trump, and all the other sideshow freaks and carnival barkers, will continue to bark away.  Remember, when P. T. Barnum made a copy of the hoax “Cardiff Giant,” people paid a premium to see the fake of the hoax.  P. T. Barnum’s ghost stalks and stomps on Republican and birther grounds now.

Boy, looking at this, you gotta know that Obama planned this all out, as Morgan claimed in comments below — just so he could get this story from Juan Williams and Shepard Smith at Fox News:

Oh, For Goodness Sake posted that video, without any other comment, as “National Mirror Moment.”  Birthers, Palinistas and Republicans must be choking on their dinners from that report.  Has the Fox turned on ‘em?

Always a good site to expose the inanity and insanity of Obama’s critics, especially on the issues of Obama’s history, Oh, For Goodness Sake has a particular bead on the hypocrisy of those same critics:

How many times have you heard the promise: The president could end this today if he’d just release his long form birth certificate? So now they’ve got the f—ing long form birth certificate, is it done for the Birthers?

No. No. No. No. No. No. And Nope.

Bigots.  Probably no small amount of racism in there, too.  Plus, they’ve exposed themselves as genuinely opposed to America’s good health.  David Gardner and Milton Goldstein pegged it, even if we have to paraphrase them a bit:  Had a foreign government tried to do what the birthers are doing, we’d have considered it an act of war.  History is not kind to idlers, those who fail to call out injustice, nor idiots.

I am still holding out for the placenta. I won’t be convinced until I see it. And it damn well better been an American placenta. When I put it up to my ear, it had better sing “Yankee Doodle”. Or better yet, “The Bonnie Blue Flag”.

Because if I hear jungle drums…

“WASHINGTON–In the continuing controversy surrounding the president’s U.S. citizenship, a new fringe group informally known as “Afterbirthers” demanded Monday the authentication of Barack Obama’s placenta from his time inside his mother’s womb. “All we are asking is that the president produce a sample of his fetal membranes and vessels—preferably along with a photo of the crowning and delivery—and this will all be over,” said former presidential candidate and Afterbirthers spokesman Alan Keyes, later adding that his organization would be willing to settle for a half-liter of maternal cord plasma. “To this day, the American people have not seen a cervical mucus plug, let alone one that has been signed and notarized by a state-certified Hawaiian health official. If the president was indeed born in the manner in which he claims, then where is his gestation sac?” Keyes said that if Obama did not soon produce at least a bloody bedsheet from his conception, Afterbirthers would push forward with efforts to exhume the president’s deceased mother and inspect the corpse’s pelvic bone and birth canal.”

I know this must be true…I read it online.

Martin Van Buren was the first President to allegedly be born in this country. I say “allegedly,” because there’s no birth certificate. Of course, nobody would care about that, because he wasn’t black.

Morgan, lets see you answer this one simple question.

If this was really about whether he was born in the United States or not then why didn’t your side have the same questions about McCain?

After all…it’s a known fact that McCain was not born in the United States.

    Oh wait…that’s right…McCain is white.

Sorry, Morgan, the whole birther nonsense is nothing but a bunch of racist jackasses throwing a hissy fit that *gasp* the black man won.

And you’re sitting there stupid enough to buy into it.

The only thing the birthers accomplish other then making the entire Republican party look like a bunch of fools is prove beyond a doubt that the country would be better off if the Republican party ceased to exist.

But my point is — if Obama’s aim was to preside over all of America, and serve the interests of all Americans…as George Washington sought to do…there would have been no strategic document-drop on 4/27/11. He would have given us what He had, the minute He had the ability to give it to us.

That’s pure bullfeathers. There was no “strategic document drop” at any point. Obama’s official birth records have been available online since early 2008.

How could anyone predict that so many people would be so stupid? You didn’t predict it. Heck, now you admit that you gave little credence to the official records available — how could anyone predict that you wouldn’t honor the documents our legal system insists must be honored?

The entire episode was stupid, blown out of proportion by sore losers and Obama bigots.

When it became clear that his birth certificate was a bigger issue than your parties all-out assault on America’s aged, the proposal to end health care for older Americans and send them back to neo-poorhouses, Obama’s team worked hard to come up with a method of killing the issue.

It’s an extra-legal action, by the way. It’s not clear that the release of this document could be done by anyone other than a president of the U.S. with the assistance of the governor of Hawaii. So, were you born in Hawaii, how could you pull off this Obama trick to prove your bona fides?

    You probably couldn’t.

Your conclusion that Obama planned these events beggers belief.

This whole thing is an issue of Obama’s making. That’s why I’ve called Him “birther zero” — that is what He has been. Right now, I need to go and figure out if that title still applies…

I cannot imagine the drugs that would induce such a conclusion from anyone familiar with news and politics in the U.S. Your suggestion is mean-spirited, and stupid besides.

…but whether He has sought to service the interests of the USA or His own P.R., He’s managed to thoroughly bollux up both here. This is a fail. Hell, you’re probably going to say the same thing, word-for-word, once you get behind closed doors with like-minded Obama fans. He blew this one.

You go from one series of completely illogical and ill-thought-out claims to an equally illogical and ill-thought-out conclusion. What evidence is there he “blew it?” Would 47% of Republicans develop a brain, or a heart, or a spine, had there not been the complete nutcases like Orly Taitz and Donald Trump out beating the drum on this? Would it matter?

I noted over at Dispatches from the Culture Wars, Obama was doing the Republicans a favor, saving them from more insanity from Alfred E. Donald Trump.

Of course, it also helps hold their feet to the fire. John Boehner will be even a greater fool in the public’s eye if he deigns to answer questions about Obama’s citizenship as he has in the past, with half a push to the claim that Obama’s not eligible for the post he holds. But more important, it takes away the trees that block the road-side signs that question the Republicans about just how and why they’ve declared War on Older Americans.

That’s not a battle Republicans are likely to win.

Morgan, you’re smart enough to not give into conspiracy bull—t.

For the “birther” claim to be true this is who would have to all be involved in the “conspiracy”:

Bush administration, McCain campaign, Obama campaign and administration, the RNC, the DNC, the Clinton campaign, the FBI, the CIA, the Secret Service, the NSA and that’s just the short list.

You have a choice here, Morgan. You can be an idiot conspiracist or you can be intelligent and rational.

  6. Ed,

FIRST off, I am on record in a number of places as being convinced of Obama’s birthplace in Hawaii. (The birth announcement, not the COLB, is what did it for me.) My position has always been that, with the rock star status Obama enjoyed in 2008, it was reasonable for people to demand something better than “take my word for it” statements from officials in Hawaii’s health department. It seems like distant history now that Obama’s turned out to be such a bad president. But three years ago, He was popular everywhere. It’s not outside the realm of possibility to think someone might be willing to stretch the truth a little to, as they say, “Be A Part Of This Thing.”

Which brings me to point two.

Can you name five times you’ve been swayed by some conservative Republican’s word & nothing else? Heck, name one. This Gov. Abercrombie guy took it on himself, Christmas Day as I recall, to “end this birther business once and for all!” or some such. NOBODY was talking about it at that time. He brought the whole thing back to life, busied himself with ending it as thoroughly as he (re) started it…and crashed and burned. Oopsie, I can’t deliver. Turns out Hawaiian law doesn’t allow me to produce anything.

That took Abercrombie completely by surprise? C’mon, we’d already hashed through this already. This isn’t the kind of thing that inspires confidence.

But my point is — if Obama’s aim was to preside over all of America, and serve the interests of all Americans…as George Washington sought to do…there would have been no strategic document-drop on 4/27/11. He would have given us what He had, the minute He had the ability to give it to us.

Most Republicans didn’t care, until recently. I can’t explain what appears to be the mass lobotomy of Republicans that has nearly 50% of them questioning Obama’s birth place. I can’t explain why they don’t wish to honor the Constitution’s full faith and credit clause, nor why they think the vital records departments in Hawaii are totally incompetent, nor why they won’t trust the Republican governor of Hawaii who vouched for the accuracy of the state’s records.

Republicans are supposed to be stand-up patriotic Americans. Why have they turned so bizarre and stupid, contrary to their government and the laws they wrote?

Why don’t you take the official records of Hawaii as official? Why don’t you trust the Republicans in Hawaii to tell you the truth?

What sort of fool do you take the officials at Occidental College, Columbia University, Harvard University, the State Department, the Senate Rules Committee, and the John McCain campaign to believe, as you appear to believe now in your throwing them all under the bus, that they lied to you about Obama’s credentials, or that they are totally incompetent serially over the past 30 years, and all at once in the 2008 campaign?

C’mon, Morgan. Not even you can believe a conspiracy that includes John McCain and Bill Clinton. Why do you say stuff like that to play to a gallery of people you hope to be fools? Why do you disrespect your audience so?

  8. Now, Republicans were asking Him to release His long form birth certificate since long before this date. This is supposed to be a smart guy we have as our President. He’s certainly busy, to be sure. Not too busy for copious quantities of golf. As John Podhoretz pointed out, the first place Obama flew after announcing “we don’t have time for such silliness” or whatever, was Chicago to appear on the Oprah Winfrey show.

How much smarter would Obama have to be to release the long-form birth certificate after, let’s say, two years instead of three? We’re talking MENSA levels now? How about eighteen months?

  11. Why release the document on April 27, 2011?

Did that have something to do with the well-being of the US of A or something, in some way? If so, how?
