Old Jules was referring to something else, a serious enough issue on its own, and not necessarily the lack of vision among Republican presidential candidates.

Bill Cosby once asked if anyone else had the same chill of fear he gets when the lights start to go down at the theater: Are the lights getting dim, or are you going blind?
Is there zero visibility, or are our eyes shut tightly? Can the candidates see what it takes to get us out of this olio, this olla podrida of messes, or is there too much fog, or are they just not looking? Worse, is it dark AND they are not looking?

I share your consternation. President Obama promised to close Gitmo and roll back the obscenity that is ironically called the “Patriot” Act. I’m extremely disappointed with him over these broken pledges. Enough to vote for Gingrinch or Willard? Not even close. It is tempting, living in Illinois now, to vote Green or Socialist. This is one of the few states that is a sure Obama win in 2012.

This is just so sad. Turning this country around is an essential objective if we are to remain a democracy, but how?. We have become so polarized and getting reelected begins the day after an election and is the ultimate goal. America and it’s needs are left out of the picture entirely. And Obama doing away with habeas corpus feels like a fatal blow.
Old Jules is right. People have just followed the yellow brick road without regard for it’s destination. I do notice that many politicians seem to listening a bit to Occupy people, but :::sigh::: soon even Occupy protestors will be silenced.
Since the approval of the indefinite detention of American citizens is happening under a Democratic President, one can hardly blame the Republicans. Can any of the Republican candidates get us out of this mess? I doubt it. I’m quite sure they all think it’s a nifty idea.
