Difficulty viewing this blog?

Comments are not exactly at the deluge level, but I’ve heard from several people (including my wife) that the blog is bleeding out of its assigned column for reading, to the left.

WordPress tech thinks it may be a function of older versions of Internet Explorer.  They can’t duplicate the problem, nor can I.  Mozilla Firefox is my browser of choice, and the problem does not manifest there.

One solution would be to change the blog theme.  For a couple of reasons, I’m reluctant to do that — but I would like to know how much of a problem this is for readers.

Do you experience problems with text bleeding out of the columns?  Especially, do you experience this problem with the most current versions of Internet Explorer?  Do you have no problems at all?
Let me know in comments.  A change may come.

And in any case, it won’t kill you to comment, right?

According to validator.w3.org, “This page is not Valid XHTML 1.0 Transitional!’ and there are 5 errors. When there are errors, then there is no guarantee what a browser is going to do. Without errors, then any problems are the fault of the browser.

My wild-ass guess about what is causing the problem in MSIE is this error message

“Line 306, Column 6: XML Parsing Error: Opening and ending tag mismatch: body line 90 and div .”

You can see the errors by (maybe!) clicking on the uri below. If that doesn’t work, then just go to the validator website and paste the uri of this page into it.

    Good luck!

I am not having the problem you describe, although earthlink was unable to display the page yesterday.

I use IE 6 and it cuts out the right column unless i click on the title and open the article by itself.

  4. :) I use Firefox too, its a better browser by far .

My sympathies, same thing used to happen with my former template, went all wonky in IE or older versions thereof.

Just checked in the IE browser and it all came out fine save for the Classroom ClipArt side link.

Wow — I guess nobody uses IE here — I’m on Firefox version 1, and it looks great to me.

  6. Using Safari 3 on the Mac, I see not problems either. The WordPress guys might be right … just old versions of IE at work.

Don’t switch themes it won’t do any good; just join the fight for standards (anti-MSIE) However, occasionally WP does not load the style-sheet with the blog (in Firefox) so it looks weird but simply refresh will do.

MSIE never displays WordPress themes properly.

I’m using Internet Explorer at work and the text bleeds to the left. At home I use Firefox, so no problem there.

    Using Firefox. No problems.

Mostly, I use your site to direct me to resources I would otherwise not know about. That doesn’t require much by way of comment beyond the occasional “thanks.”
