Obama said it

“We will restore science to its rightful place.”

I’m confused. Are you or Obama the sole arbiter of the one and only definition of exactly what is and is not a legitimate avenue of scientific research?

This reminds me of the first “test tube” baby decades ago. The nutjobs and zealots back then made the same specious arguments as you and Obama make today about cloning.

What if a couple wants a baby, but can’t conceive and they are willing to try any future cloning technology? By what right do you or Obama have to force them against their will not to do it?

  3. Ed Darrell says:

How is cloning humans a legitimate avenue of scientific research?

Are you confusing the cloning of human cells, which is not prohibited, with the cloning of humans?

  4. Steve says:

I get the idea from Obama’s own words:

“And we will ensure that our government never opens the door to the use of cloning for human reproduction. It is dangerous, profoundly wrong, and has no place in our society, or any society.”

…which can be found at the White House’s own web site, also highlighted here:

It has nothing to do with sex between humans of reproductive age. And it doesn’t have to do with what YOU think! It has to do with Obama preventing a legitimate avenue of scientific research. Who the hell is Obama to stop science?

  5. Ed Darrell says:

War on cloning? Where do you get that idea?

Is there a scientific case made for cloning humans? I don’t think so. Without looking at Obama’s statement, I’m interested in your reasons for saying he declared war on cloning, and what was he really saying?

I mean, are you really arguing that there’s not enough demand for sex between humans of reproductive age?

  6. Steve says:

Now Obama has declared war on cloning. He said human cloning is “dangerous, profoundly wrong” and has no place in society. Someone needs to tell him to shut up when it comes to science. The man has no idea what he is talking about.

  7. Steve says:

    Obama also said:

“We’ve seen just a skyrocketing autism rate. Some people are suspicious that it’s connected to the vaccines. This person included. The science right now is inconclusive, but we have to research it.”

    –Barack Obama, April 21, 2008

Fact: Obama’s first sentence is misleading at best.
Fact: Obama’s second and third sentences refer to the nutcase conspiracy theorists.
Fact: Obama’s fourth sentence is 100% wrong on both accounts – the science is NOT inconclusive and it HAS already been researched.

Obama may not know it, but vaccines don’t cause autism. And any “skyrocketing autism rate” is just due to more detection combined with a wider definition of the spectrum.

And let’s not forget the economic sciences, listening to Obama on economics makes about as much sense as listening to a creationist talk about biology – neither one knows what they are talking about.

So clearly, Obama is not the science expert he is made out to be.

And Obama’s limited capacity for understanding isn’t confined to science. There is Obama’s geography with his visiting “57 states” and not knowing Canada is a different country than the United States. http://www.motivatedphotos.com/?id=11036

Obama also doesn’t know that movies are just pretend: http://awurl.com/Ak5bOCrOE

Let’s face it, Obama’s golf bag doesn’t have a full set of irons.

I already knew about science’s return based on Obama’s appointments. So, yes, that’s wonderful. But the one statement that made me happiest was this one: “We are a nation of Christians and Muslims, Jews and Hindus–and non-believers.” As a non-believer, I cheered.

    It’s awesome! And about time!
