Video profile in courage: Gay Mormon comes out

Jimmy Lee Hales had news for his family, friends, mission companions, and a few others:

He seems to be handling things rather well, considering.  Surprisingly, so are others around him handling it well.

Studying at BYU as a closet gay Mormon has been quite an experience. I finally decided to come out and stop living a lie. I’m still, and will forever be, a faithful Mormon. While some gay Mormons still marry someone of the opposite sex, I do not see myself doing this. I will remain celibate and do not plan to marry.

  1. Ed Darrell says:

WAMIYA is pretty obviously a semi-anonymous semi-troll. Don’t bank on his/her having the fortitude or courtesy to reply.

  2. jsojourner says:

I’d be curious, moral idiot, to know why you consider homosexuals to be degenerate. What is it about treating them with decency, respect and compassion is morally insane?

Do elucidate. Enthrall us with your psychological, medical or theological acumen…

  3. george.w says:

I’m sad contemplating that his faithfulness means he must deprive himself for life, or feel that he is sinful. Nice work, church of LDS.

  4. Ed Darrell says:

What a moral coward you are, “What a moral idiot.”

Your post is QED for why Mr. Hayes shows courage, courage you in your anonymity can never show.

    Cowardice is as cowards do.

  5. Jude says:

Back in the ancient days of the 1970s, my favorite LDS cousin’s best friend was gay. Maybe because they lived in LA, they were totally accepting of it. My cousins weren’t homophobic at all, which is why I was surprised at the recent waves of homophobia which I attribute to people coming out. The only sad thing is that the plans to be celibate, but he also is planning to stay LDS, and both of those things could change.

  6. What a moral idiot you are says:

More of a Profile of Degeneracy, to get back to reality.

You really need to stop thinking that homosexual as “heros” or that this sort of stuff is somehow normative or laudable. They are no such things. Quite the opposite, in fact.

Seriously, you have passed into some sort moral insanity. This does not surprise. You need to do a little soul searching (while you still have one to search, I might add.)
