Myth of the criminal immigrant

Turns out the more immigrants the U.S. gets, the lower the crime rate.

What else are anti-immigrant advocates fibbing about?

Doesn’t matter to me now what the NYT has to say; I’ve given it up after 50 years of reading. Bret Stephens’ open letter to the new Atlantic writer, Kevin Williamson, saying how sorry he was that everyone was being so mean, just because Williamson is a racist and wants to kill millions of American women, was my final straw. This old gray lady has given up on that old gray lady.

Ellie, did you see Brooks’s column in the past two months on immigration?

Point is, Lenin, the claimed increase in crime from immigrants is wholly imaginary. Fictional.

Cause and effect issues? Irrelevant. The claimed correlation from Trump is disproven — cause and effect he claims, if true, is opposite the effect he claims.

Cause and effect escape me as well, oh so often. Phrases like, “In general, the study’s data suggests either that immigration has the effect of reducing average crime” seems more editorially driven and less than scientific, no? The first corollary & conclusion could be to k]let more immigrants in so crime moves toward zero? This study obviates the time honored sociological connection of poverty to crime, no? Or could it point to a genetic problem with those who commit crimes? This stand alone study….could it be the salvation of our inner city problems? Thanks, NYT and schools of study, further proving “there are lies, damn lies and statistics”.

It was a good article, but I’m waiting for Brooks or someone else to find a Nazi in a diner in rural PA so I can find out what “real people” think about it.
