That, good sir, is one of the coolest things ever put on the web. It’s run by a small group of people who love books. They’re serious about them, but not to the point of losing the sense of wonder and fun loving books should engender.
The simple part of the interface does more than you need for the common personal library. Tag your books the way you use them. The deeper parts give you cool stuff to play with if you’re so inclined. Doesn’t do something you wish it did? Tell them. If it’s not in development and it’s a good idea, it’ll get put in the queue (I can’t wait for the anthology tool).
And if you want to see something REALLY cool, get yourself a modified CueCat (they’re about $15.00 on ebay when I got mine) and catalog a shelf of books in 10 minutes (assuming they’re recent enough to have ISBN barcodes–older books take a little longer to get through). Do the first 200 in your library for free and see if you don’t want to spend the price of a new hardback for a lifetime membership. AND (as if that’s not enough), download your catalog to an Excel file as you build it, so if you find another tool that works better, walk away with the work you’ve done. Oh, and you can link up with people who share your interests and your books.
I’m only about 900 books into our library, but I really can’t say enough nice things about LibraryThing and the people who run it. It’s a community built around books. If you have a library, go and find out for yourself.
